No More Endurance Run

•September 13, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I’m sorry to say (not that anyone probably checks this blog anymore), that the endurance run is no more. This is for a number of reasons, my uni workload, a system reboot and then needing to have other software installed. I wish I could have finished it but it was always so daunting to undertake that I would put off playing it.

Regardless I would like to try again when the new Fallout game comes out because I could play it on hardcore, but I will wait until I’ve finished the game so I then just need to do the writing.

Anyway, I hope that this is a return to blogging, I would like to do some reviews and such, carve out my own little place on the internet.

ImmorTall

ImmorTall is the sort of game that makes me want to create games.

I only just discovered this awesome game today, and it can’t be longer than 5 minutes long without much variation but I’ve been playing it constantly.

The premise and execution are typically arty, you are given only a minimum of help and direction, left to just discover what happens when you head right. What happens is made powerful by the striking visual style, expressive emotions and brilliant music. I may even try to learn the guitar part it is that catchy, and I haven’t thought about doing that since the Halo battle music.

It’s simplistic beauty is what is something that I want to be able to capture in my own creations, and it has given me the drive to try harder with learning how to create a game. Currently I’m not very far, having dropped the attempt to use Flex Builder and Flixel for Flash but hopefully I will be able to come back to it in the future. This tutorial in particular is brilliant for anybody trying to dip their toes into the water of programming.

Anyway, go check ImmorTall out!

Chapter 4: Tuna Sandwich

•March 4, 2010 • 1 Comment

Chapter 4 is very short thanks to some unfortunate technical details that shan’t happen again. Regardless I still get to participate in some entertaining  hi-jinks and even involve robots.

Chapter 5 will hopefully arrive over the weekend, the reason for the long gap in posting was an impending essay.

Chapter 1 of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R Permadeath Runthrough

•February 23, 2010 • 2 Comments

Inspired by talk from Anthony Burch about how playing a game on permadeath (when you die you must start from scratch) creates interesting feelings and situations, as well as raising the tension I decided to give it a go myself.

Permanent Death by Ben Abraham seems to be the catalyst in raising the public awareness of this playing style so I didn’t want to copy it exactly. So rather than playing it on Far Cry 2 I decided to use S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call Of Pripyat, a game series that has interested me for a while. I’ve never tried it out before, but it seems to blend the realistic and fantastical pretty well so I thought this would be the perfect game.

So without further ado:
